The truly distinguished sound of Malang Party — their unique brand of rock blending with elements of rootsy folk rhythms, and sprinkled with jazz and blues influences — makes for an experience that’s probably as inventive as it’s entertaining. The name Malang refers to a traveling dervish who has given up the world in pursuit of the spiritual.

Zishan Mansoor’s versatile skills as a guitar player/singer, and moonlighting as the lyricist, bolstered by Zain on bass, and Iba featured in top form featuring on the drums, led to the formation of Malang Party around 2011, with their name that coming to them as an epiphany at the tomb of Shah Jamal.

They made their first EP in 2011, which was recorded by Jamal Rahman at True Brew Records and James Stephens at Attic Studios, Islamabad, their songs becoming hits, with “Dil Jalay’s” video going viral.

Currently, frontman Zishan is working on Malang Party’s full-length studio album, Ziyarat, with bass player Anas Alam Khan and drummer Kami Paul. Also featured on this album are Varqa Faraid on electric piano/hammond organ, Mishal Farina on backing vocals, and Hassan Mohyeddin aka MOYO on backing vocals. The upcoming album was recorded live at A for Aleph, engineered by Daniel Arthur Panjwaneey with producers Umair Dar and Saad Dada. It is due to be released in in 2020.
